Interview with Martha van Berkel

By Reese Oxner

I recently talked with Martha van Berkel from Schema App about her upcoming session at the State of Search digital marketing conference in Dallas. She gave me a preview of what she will discuss.

What will you be speaking about at the State of Search this year?
This year I will be speaking about ten things that you don’t know about structured data (aka schema markup). Schema Markup is hard to understand. During my presentation I’ll simplify some of the more advanced concepts about structured data, and share some advanced techniques that help clarify content, drive organic performance, and provide valuable insights. Some topics I’ll cover include main entity of page, knowledge graphs, additional type and more.

What are the key takeaways that you’d like the audience to get when they come to your session?
I am the CEO of Schema App. We are a software company focused entirely on helping SEO professionals do structured data at scale with little to no development or IT involvement. I live in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and when not sharing my knowledge about structured data, I like to spend time with my kids and on the water rowing.

What is the importance of this conference?
I really love State of Search because of how I get to connect with SEOs from a range of different companies in a friendly, easy-going setting. I love the fact that I get to have nerdy conversations throughout the two days, and also with the other speakers. I think the size of the event is perfect for sharing knowledge and making new friends.
